How to play it

Tips from Sierra Sage's course details, in our words.

Hole 1 · par 4
A slight dogleg right; stay out of the right-side fairway bunker. The second shot is straightforward, and the green has a slight tier and a bunker to its right.
Hole 2 · par 5
A dogleg right with a bunker and a pond on the right of the landing area. Expect a long second to a narrow, elevated green with bunkers across the front.
Hole 3 · par 4
A straight, slightly uphill par 4. The green is elevated, so don't land short or the ball can roll back off.
Hole 4 · par 3
An uphill par 3 over water; allow for 10 to 15 yards of uphill. Bunkers flank both sides of the green, and staying below the hole avoids a tough downhill putt.
Hole 5 · par 4
Rated the toughest hole on the course. The drive goes downhill into a valley, and the uphill second can't miss right, or it will bounce into a collection area.
Hole 6 · par 4
A short dogleg left with a big fairway bunker down the left. The green slopes toward the front, so keep your approach below the flag.
Hole 7 · par 4
A tight, slight dogleg right where you may want to lay up off the tee. The green is tricky; play your approach right of the flag, since the green funnels left.
Hole 8 · par 3
A straightforward par 3 to a fairly flat green. Stay out of the bunkers, above all the little pot bunker on the left.
Hole 9 · par 4
A long par 4; you'll need a wood or long iron for the second. Land that shot short of the green, since anything landing on the green will run to the back.
Hole 10 · par 5
A short par 5 that needs a precise drive: out of bounds lines the right, and a long bunker runs down the left side of the fairway. The second is straightforward, and the green is flat.
Hole 11 · par 4
Narrow off the tee, and a drainage ditch runs along the right, so hit less than driver. When the wind is in your face, driver is fine; otherwise you may face a long second. The green is flat, but watch the bunkers on its right.
Hole 12 · par 3
A straight par 3 that plays a bit longer, to one of the smaller greens. Stay out of the bunker to the left of the green; missing short or right is best.
Hole 13 · par 4
A dogleg right with a fairly wide fairway; hit down the left side. The green sits slightly uphill, so avoid being above the hole when the flag is front or center.
Hole 14 · par 4
A long par 4. A pond and a fairway bunker sit on the right, and finding the small bunkers right of the green leaves a tough up and down.
Hole 15 · par 4
A sharp dogleg with a pond right of the fairway. Hit less than driver down the middle to leave a short second. The green runs hard to the back, so land your approach on the front.
Hole 16 · par 3
A forced carry off the tee to a long green that has a tier through its middle; bunkers surround the entire green.
Hole 17 · par 4
A short, straight hole that longer hitters can reach. Bunkers flank the front of the green, and missing to either side leaves you short-sided with a hard up and down.
Hole 18 · par 5
The longest par 5; drive down the left side. The second is usually a layup. Leave your approach below the hole, because the green is very fast from above.
