How to play it
Tips from Cascata's course tour, in our words.
- Hole 1 · par 4
- Drive uphill, with a river along the left. The green slopes front to back.
- Hole 2 · par 4
- The hardest hole: a long, uphill par 4 with a big fairway bunker on the left. Leave your approach short of the hole for an uphill putt; long finds the greenside bunkers.
- Hole 3 · par 5
- A par 5 from an elevated tee. Long hitters can go for the green in two.
- Hole 4 · par 3
- The first par 3: a lake guards the front left of the green and bunkers the right, so the target is narrow.
- Hole 5 · par 5
- A wide fairway, so swing away. The hole doglegs slightly left, and a big bunker guards the front left of the green if you go for it in two.
- Hole 6 · par 4
- A dogleg right. Keep your drive down the left for the best angle, avoid the right greenside bunker, then deal with a steeply sloped green.
- Hole 7 · par 3
- A par 3 built into the canyon, with bunkers and a river around the green. A lower shot to the middle works best.
- Hole 8 · par 4
- A dogleg right: hit less than driver to fit between the hills. The second shot needs to land high and soft on a raised, rolling green.
- Hole 9 · par 4
- Straight and downhill all the way. The green is open at the front and left.
- Hole 10 · par 4
- Aim your tee shot left of center for a clear look at a green with bunkers in front and on the left.
- Hole 11 · par 4
- Hit less than driver; long hitters can reach the pond at the end of the fairway. Then a wedge or short iron to a raised green. Don't come up short.
- Hole 12 · par 3
- A short par 3 below a waterfall. A river runs down the left and bunkers line the right, so hit it straight.
- Hole 13 · par 4
- The signature hole: a sharp dogleg left from an elevated tee to a green among red rocks. Cutting the corner is tempting. Approach from the right, which feeds onto the green; a bunker sits left.
- Hole 14 · par 4
- A river runs all down the right, with a pond front right of the green and bunkers back left. An accurate drive is key.
- Hole 15 · par 3
- A par 3 with bunkers on both sides. Favor the right; you can use the slope there, and the left bunker is tough.
- Hole 16 · par 5
- An uphill par 5 that winds through the rocks. A wide fairway off the tee, then turn left and stay away from the front-left bunker.
- Hole 17 · par 4
- A dogleg left from a high tee. Long hitters can cut the corner for a short approach, but watch the three bunkers at the front and back right.
- Hole 18 · par 5
- A double dogleg par 5, with a river that starts on the left and then cuts across the fairway. The safe play is less than driver, a layup, then a wedge to a large green.
