How to play it
Tips from Coyote Springs' course guide, in our words.
- Hole 1 · par 4
- A friendly opener with a big landing area. Several bunkers guard the large green, but par is very gettable.
- Hole 2 · par 5
- A long, uphill par 5 that few will reach. Bunkers in the second landing area make you plan your approach to a tricky green complex.
- Hole 3 · par 3
- The first of four par 3s: a solid iron over water to the course's most subtle green.
- Hole 4 · par 4
- A great view and a hole with teeth. A good drive leaves a mid- to short iron. Don't bail out left off the tee.
- Hole 5 · par 5
- A par 5 where strategy matters. Put your drive on the right line for the best angle.
- Hole 6 · par 4
- A mid-length par 4 with a heavily contoured fairway (few flat lies) and a tough green. Par is a great score.
- Hole 7 · par 4
- A long par 4 with a very wide landing area, so let it go. Watch the deep bunkers on the approach.
- Hole 8 · par 3
- Carry the bunker on the left and the fairway funnels the ball toward the front of the green.
- Hole 9 · par 4
- Choose: a safe drive that leaves a mid-iron, or go hard at the second bunker on the right and run down the slope.
- Hole 10 · par 4
- An uphill par 4. A firm drive down the right leaves a mid or short iron to a gentle green.
- Hole 11 · par 5
- A mid-length par 5 that long hitters can reach. Avoid the bunkers for a good birdie look at a small green.
- Hole 12 · par 3
- One of the toughest holes: a well-protected green. A mid-iron to the middle and two putts is a win.
- Hole 13 · par 4
- A big fairway bunker sits out there. Laying up leaves a short- to mid-iron to a large green.
- Hole 14 · par 4
- A risk-reward drive. Mind the pin on a very undulating green; par often wins the hole.
- Hole 15 · par 4
- A short par 4. Laying up off the tee is the safe play; going for it is a gamble.
- Hole 16 · par 5
- The longest hole, with a heavily moving fairway that makes going for it in two hard. There's room up the right for the best angle in.
- Hole 17 · par 3
- A par 3 with a big ridge through a large green. Hit the middle and two-putt.
- Hole 18 · par 4
- The carry off the tee is shorter than it looks; then a short- to mid-iron is left.
